Our fully built aircraft are certificated to the LSA standard and can carry either VH or RA-Aus registration. Sure, you could say that perhaps only conservative pilots fly Australian LightWing aircraft, but the way we design and build our aircraft definitely contributes to our record. The combination of aluminium wings and a welded steel safety frame that encloses the pilots in a protective cocoon is unmatched in the industry.In both the SP2000 and SP4000 both you and your passengers are surrounded by an ultra strong and fully welded steel safety frame, providing roll-over protection and an ultra rigid aerodynamic platform that is capable of loads way beyond that which you will experience in flight. 4 Point seat belts come standard with our aircraft.

In both the tail wheel version (the GR-912) and the nose wheel version, the ALW SPORT 2000 is a super user-friendly high wing monoplane. Construction consists of a riveted alloy wing partly covered with aircraft fabric (part alloy), combined with a welded, light weight steel fuselage - also part composite, part fabric covered. The welded steel fuselage provides a high degree of protection in the event of an accident, while the slow stall speed (35kts) reduces momentum, adding to safety.

Economical Cruise Speed is 75kts for both aircraft and a maximum cruise speed is 85kts.

Range is a little over three hours, with two wing-mounted fuel tanks of 30L each. Both the SPORT 2000 and the GR-912 are designed to meet some of the highest standards in the world.

Performance and Flight Handling

The Australian LightWing is stable and easy to fly. Our two thirds span wing flaps are highly effective and allow easy directional control, particularly in cross wind landings. When the wind is blowing across the strip a low wing is easier to manage as the aircraft has a lower centre of drag.

In terms of teaching students, the main controls, elevator and aileron side sticks, are separate for student and teacher and though the throttle and trim are common, there will be no need for the instructor to touch the student's hands during most modes of instruction.

Both the seating and rudder pedals are adjustable, making it possible to safely and comfortably operate the aircraft controls without the use of pillows and cushions, always present in most schools with aircraft with fixed controls and seating. The control sticks can be adjusted 50mm fore and aft, though this customisation is spanner adjustable.

Service and Style

The The SPORT 2000 is stylish, state-of-the-art and attractive, and if aircraft look good, they generally fly well. The body is sleek and aerodynamically clean, resulting in less power being used to propel the aircraft, resulting in less fuel burn, longer range and lower operating costs.

We are Australian, no need to elaborate on that one - faster service, much faster service.

Nick Hughes maintains the fastest backup and parts service possible; we make the parts onsite so it's simply not possible to be out of stock of any parts, small or large. "Buying Australian" needs to be  taught at school if we are to build our Aussie technology base. I don’t believe there is a LightWing internet support group, a sound indication that factory support is 100% effective.
Documentation, our service and flight manuals, make maintenance simple and straight forward.

The Australian LightWing ~ Wing Section

Wing Construction: 6061T6 high tensile alluminium frame. Underside outboard panels 2.5Oz Ceconite. Control surfaces GRP laminated mass-balanced ailerons, elevators and rudder.

Our large, square plan wings use wing section NACA23013. This wing section combined with our smooth and clean airframe gives you, the pilot, the ultimate in efficiency.

Wing tips: GRP laminate, optional strobe lights (Price approx. $1000).

Undercarriage

The tyres on our aircraft are 15 inch (15”) on 5 x 5" rims, the Air Trac tyres grip the runway and provide differential steering with big powerful disk brakes - this means they're big and rugged and can handle rough or bush strips with ease.

Fuselage Construction: Welded lightweight steel fuselage with semi-structural GRP skin, heat formed polycarbonate windows, underside of fuselage: forward area GRP laminate skin , rear 2.5 ounce ceconite.

Spinner: 13" diameter GRP laminate.

The Australian LightWing Range of Fully Built and Kit Aircraft

All prices are subject to change without notice, call at time of purchase for a fixed quotation. Terms of Payment ~ three installments ~ 33% deposit; 33% one month prior to delivery and balance on delivery. Aircraft is delivered with a minimum of 30L of fuel and test flown four hours minimum.

ALW Float Plane and Amphibious Aircraft

Floats and Amphibious floats are available for LSA approved aircraft, and we can custom design your own unique colour scheme and add a personalised name to your aircraft. The Float plane features floats only - no retractable wheels. The Amphibious LightWing is an aircraft with retractable wheels fitted inside the floats.

The small vertical helicopter-style dash, and added forward windows, were added to the Australian LightWing to provide extra forward visibility for aerial inspection. We call it the 'Heliview' Cockpit.
