The ALW GR-912-LSA

The New Australian LightWing GR-912-LSA Aircraft will feature all the fantastic features of the ALW SP Range for the pilot who simply prefers a high wing and tail wheel configuration. The GR-912-LSA also features complete window doors, for maximum visibility in the air.

Available as a two seat (or four seat kit version) with, of course, the added options of the VIP (Variable Inflight Pitch) Propellor, the Glass Cockpit, your choice of leather upholstery, endless colour and highlight options and much much more.

This aircraft is a close cousin of the SP Range of Australian LightWing Aircraft, although the GR-912-LSA Aircraft will feature a High Wing configuration.

The ALW GR-912-LSA will have an 9.1 metre wing span and have cabin dimensions of 1.15 metres wide and 1.2 metres high.

Why Purchase an Australian LightWing GR-912-LSA?

Safety is our Prominent Feature

In both the SP2000, SP4000 and the GR-912-LSA both the pilot and the passengers are surrounded by an ultra strong and fully welded steel safety frame, providing roll-over protection and an ultra rigid aerodynamic platform that is capable of loads way beyond that which you will experience in flight.

The combination of aluminium wings and a welded steel frame that encloses the pilots in a protective cocoon is unmatched in the industry.

Both the seating and rudder pedals are adjustable, making it possible to safely and comfortably operate the aircraft controls without the use of pillows and cushions, always present in most schools with aircraft with fixed controls and seating. The control sticks can be adjusted 50mm fore and aft, though this customisation is spanner adjustable.

Performance and Flight Handling

The GR-912-LSA is stable and easy to fly. Our two thirds span wing flaps are highly effective and allow easy directional control, particularly in cross wind landings.

The GR-912-LSA cruises at approx 80 knots at 75% power with a solid rate of climb of 750ft per min. In terms of teaching students, the main controls, elevator and aileron central stick.

Four point seat belts come standard with our aircraft.

Service and Style

The GR-912-LSA is stylish, state-of-the-art and attractive, and if aircraft look good, they generally fly well. The GR-912-LSA body is sleek and aerodynamically clean, resulting in less power being used to propel the aircraft, resulting in less fuel burn (15 to 18L/hr), longer range and lower operating costs.

We are Australian, no need to elaborate on that one - faster service, much faster service.

Nick Hughes maintains the fastest backup and parts service possible; we make the parts onsite so it's simply not possible to be out of stock of any parts, small or large. Buying Australian needs to be  taught at school if we are to build our Aussie technology base. I don’t believe there is a LightWing internet support group, a sound indication that factory support is 100% effective.
Documentation, our service and flight manuals, make maintenance simple and straight forward.

ALW GR-912-LSA Construction

The Australian LightWing ~ Wing Section

Wing Construction: 6061T6 high tensile alluminium frame. Underside outboard panels 2.5Oz Ceconite. Control surfaces are fabric covered.

Our large, square plan wings use wing section NACA23013. This wing section combined with our smooth and clean airframe gives you, the pilot, the ultimate in efficiency. As an example, using 4100RPM and 25 inches manifold pressure, the GR-912-LSA will maintain altitude at 65kts using only about 30hp. This is amazing to see in flight. Apply power and the air speed rapidly reaches cruise speed in a matter of seconds. See our Free Aircraft DVD for an in-flight demonstration of this.

With a wingspan of 9.1 metres the square plan wings have an inbuilt anti-stall feature that keeps the wing tips flying right up to the stall. The wings on the GR-912-LSA provide excellent stability in the air and on the runway.

The tyres on our aircraft are 15 inch (15”) on 5 x 5" rims, the Air Trac tyres grip the runway and provide differential steering with big powerful brakes - this means they're big and rugged and can handle rough or bush strips with ease. The castering nose wheel means the GR-912-LSA can be spun on one wheel and makes manoeuvring the aircraft in your hanger very easy.

Fuselage Construction: Welded lightweight steel fuselage with semi-structural GRP skin, heat formed polycarbonate windows, underside of fuselage: forward area GRP laminate skin , rear 2.5 ounce ceconite.

Spinner: 13" diameter GRP laminate.
